3. Financial Support
- o You can show proof of sufficient funds to support yourself during the extended stay.
4. No Criminal Record
- o You are not inadmissible due to criminal or medical reasons.
Types of Extensions
1. Visitor Visa Extension (Visitor Record)
- o For tourists or visitors in Canada.
- o A Visitor Record is issued to extend your stay, usually for another 6 months.
2. Study Permit Extension
- o For students enrolled in a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and needing more time to complete their studies.
3. Work Permit Extension
- o For workers with an extended job offer or those applying for a new work permit type (e.g., bridging permits for PR applicants).
4. Restoration of Status
- o If your status has expired, you may apply to restore it within 90 days of the expiry.
Required Documents
1. General Requirements (for all extensions):
- o Completed application form:
- o IMM 5708 (for Visitor or Study Permit extension).
- o IMM 5710 (for Work Permit extension).
- o Valid passport with sufficient validity for the requested extension period.

2. Pay Fees

- o Study Permit extension: $150 CAD.

3. Wait for Processing
- o Processing times vary depending on the type of extension and location. Check the current timelines on the IRCC website.
4. Implied Status
- o If you apply before your current status expires, you can remain in Canada under Implied Status until a decision is made.
Restoration of Status
If your visa, study permit, or work permit has expired:
- 1. Apply for restoration of status within 90 days.
- 2. Pay the restoration fee of $200 CAD in addition to the regular application fees.
- 3. Provide a clear explanation for why you overstayed.
Key Considerations
- • Timing: Apply at least 30 days before your status expires.
- • Passport Validity: Your passport must be valid for the full duration of the requested extension.
- • Multiple Entry Visa: Extending your stay does not renew your TRV. To re-enter Canada, you may need to apply for a new TRV.
