    Eligibility Requirements for the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)

    To be eligible for the Federal Skilled Trades Program, applicants must meet several criteria, which include experience in a skilled trade, language proficiency, and other factors. Below are the detailed eligibility requirements:

    1. Skilled Work Experience

    • Skilled trade experience: You must have at least 2 years of full-time (or the equivalent in part-time) work experience in one of the eligible trades in the last 5 years. The work experience must be in a skilled trade that is listed under National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes 7271 to 7299 or other approved skilled trades.
    • • The work experience must be in a skilled trade that requires at least two years of training or on-the-job experience. Some examples of eligible skilled trades include:
      1. o Construction trades: (e.g., electricians, carpenters, masons, plumbers)
      2. o Industrial/technical trades: (e.g., welders, heavy-duty equipment mechanics)
      3. o Transportation trades: (e.g., truck drivers, aircraft maintenance engineers)
      4. o Service trades : (e.g., chefs, bakers, butchers, hairstylists)

    2. Job Offer or Certification Requirement

    To qualify for the FSTP, you must meet at least one of the following conditions:

    1. A valid job offer of full-time, permanent employment in Canada for at least one year in your skilled trade from a Canadian employer, or
    2. A certificate of qualification in your trade issued by a Canadian provincial or territorial authority. This certificate proves that you are officially qualified to work in your skilled trade in Canada

    Note: While a job offer is not required, it can significantly enhance your chances of being selected for the program and obtaining permanent residence.

    3. Language Proficiency

    You must demonstrate your ability to communicate in either English or French by taking an approved language test:

    1. English: IELTS (International English Language Testing System) or CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program)
    2. French: TEF (Test d’évaluation de français) or TCF (Test de connaissance du français)

    The minimum required language levels for the Federal Skilled Trades Program are:

    1. CLB (Canadian Language Benchmark) 5 for speaking and listening
    2. French: TEF (Test d’évaluation de français) or TCF (Test de connaissance du français)

    4. Proof of Funds

    Applicants must show that they have enough money to support themselves and their family members after arriving in Canada unless:

    2. • Undergo a criminal background check to confirm that you do not have a criminal record that would make you inadmissible to Canada.

    Eligible Skilled Trades for the Federal Skilled Trades Program

    The Federal Skilled Trades Program is designed for applicants who have experience in one of the following skilled trades (these trades are categorized under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes). Some common categories include:

    How to Apply for the Federal Skilled Trades Program

    1. Create an Express Entry Profile: You must create an Express Entry profile online. This profile will be used to assess your eligibility for the Federal Skilled Trades Program as well as other immigration programs under the Express Entry system.
    2. Meet the Eligibility Criteria: Ensure you meet all the basic eligibility requirements, including work experience, language proficiency, and proof of funds.
    3. Submit Your Express Entry Profile: Once you submit your profile, it will be ranked based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Those with the highest CRS scores will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.
    4. Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA): If your profile ranks high enough, you will receive an ITA from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
    5. Submit Your Application: Once you receive an ITA, you will have 60 days to submit your application for permanent residence along with all the required documents (language test results, proof of work experience, proof of funds, etc.).
